The amount of tolls are increasing to collect the fund for transportation projects

In San Francisco at Hyatt Regency Hotel, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission has decided to increase the tolls up to $3 on the Bay Bridge and other state-owned spans to increase the money for transportation projects. A discount will be provided for those drivers who pay their tolls with FasTrak and there is an additional charge for trucks.

Libby Schaaf who is the mayor of Oakland said, “The potential measure should direct funding to affordable housing. And bicycling advocates argued that it should pay for construction of a bike path on the west span of the Bay Bridge between Yerba Buena Island and San Francisco”.

Whenever legislators have allowed the commission to place regional toll measures on the ballot, their plan has been approved by voters. The Regional Measure 1 for transportation projects was raised to $2 billion in 1988. In 2004, Regional Measure 2 was raised to $1.5 billion.

Randy Rentschler who is MTC spokesman and legislative director said, “The staff needs to know what the commission would like from a 2018 toll increase to allow it to lobby legislators in the coming year”.

The discount by paying through FasTrak is a great deal to promote drivers to pay their tolls electronically.
