In 2017, the legislature passed an urgent transportation fund which addressed the billions to maintain the roads of the city. It will maintain potholes, bridges, deteriorating, and other transit systems of the state.
The roads must be maintained in time because if the department will wait for long then it has to invest more in maintaining roads. It will become an expensive task to fix the roads of the state in late future.
According to the department of transportation, California
“We have a $59 billion backlog of needed upgrades to state highways. A separate report funded by local governments found that local streets and roads had an even bigger backlog of improvements needed: $73 billion. The Bay Area has been a leader in passing local ballot measures to fund transportation improvements as state and federal support shrinks, but it’s not nearly enough”.
As per the report conducted by National Transportation Research Group 2015, the overall cost that a driver has to invest in maintenance of their vehicle is $762. The average drivers annually face such problems because of the poor condition of roads of the state.
The new bill provides required budget for the maintenance. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Senate Transportation committee.
