As public transportation goes, Richmond District has become the most tricky area of the San Francisco. This covers a large swathe of the city with no underground transit runs. But whenever an idea seems close to becoming a reality a business or resident stands against it.
For now, it all comes from the 50 years old resident of Richmond who is also the supervisor of the area, Sandra Fewer. Now, she wants to extend BART to her domain. As per the report, San Francisco Examiner along with SF County Transportation Authority have requested to study the possibility of BART expansion to Richmond District.
Making her words sound loud, Sandra told the examiner “My residents can’t be connected to the East Bay easily. How long do you think I can ask my constituents to do that?” noting that public transit to Oakland from the Richmond requires a (grueling) 38-Geary bus ride to BART downtown.”
SFist said, “a recent study by the MTC revealed that approximately 16,200 Richmond District residents commute downtown on a public transit system designed to serve a maximum of 16,800.” And the number is expected to shoot up to an estimated 18,000 by 2040.
