Greener Public Transportation in San Francisco

One good step was taken by you when you prefer public transportation to your office than a personal cab. And now its government’s time to implement the greener public transport. Now the system has initiated to reduce carbon footprint in public transportation vehicles.

BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) the Californian transit system has accepted aggressive guidelines. It enables renewable power sources to adopt wholesale electricity portfolio policy.

BART Director Nick Josefowitz said “Every day, BART takes cars off the road and helps drive down our greenhouse gas emissions. But especially now, BART and the Bay Area must shoulder even more responsibility to combat climate change. Even though BART is not required to comply with the state’s renewable energy standards, we have committed to purchasing 100 percent renewable electricity and taking a leadership role in decarbonizing our transportation sector.”

BART’s Sustainability Manager Holly Gordon said: “Given that renewable energy supply costs have fallen significantly in recent years and have approached cost parity with other supply sources, BART has an opportunity to set clean energy goals that are both ambitious and realistic.”

It’s the very first electrified public transit system in order to make 100 % renewable power pledge. It will inspire transport company to design vehicles with less carbon emitter.
