Target announced a few days ago that they will acquire Grand Junction (San Francisco-based transfer technology firm) to boost same-day delivery capabilities. Both Target and Grand Junction have worked together to improve delivery services in New York and now they are planning to spread it out.
Arthur Valdez, Target’s executive vice president, chief supply chain and logistics officer said, “Grand Junction’s technology and algorithms will help Target deliver to guests faster and more efficiently. This acquisition is part of Target’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Target’s supply chain to provide greater speed, reliability, and convenience for guests.”
The company developed a software platform for third-party logistics providers, distributors, and retailers to control all the deliveries with more than 700 carriers network. This software finds out the most convenient and fastest route for deliveries, track them continuously to give an overview to retailers about their carriers performance. This system will speed up Target’s delivery system from a next-day delivery to same-day delivery service.
Rob Howard, Founder and CEO of Grand Junction, become a VP of technology at Target said, “Target is seizing a tremendous opportunity to leverage local delivery as a retail differentiator. We’re thrilled about helping to pursue this opportunity, and to join Target at this unprecedented time in retail.”
