New driving, transportation laws in California take effect

A pack of new transportation rules approved by Gov. Jerry Brown in last took effect throughout California. Among all these laws are Senate Bills 61 and 65, approved by state Sen. Jerry Hill. Senate Bills 61 imposes stricter application laws for blue disability placards, including a requirement to offer proof of a “true full name and birth date,” as per the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Senate Bills 65 prohibits ingesting or smoking cannabis while driving, to address legalization of recreational marijuana effective of California. According to the DMV, Senate Bill 20, also approved by Hill, will require passengers on buses that are equipped with seat belts to use them, an infraction punishable by a fine.

According to the state, the fees will be charged based on the market value of the vehicle being registered, and will direct $54 billion in the next decade to fixing transfer infrastructure statewide like roads and bridges.
