The decision by City of Palo Alto council members to advance an annual "office space cap" last Monday was a courageous move for future office building developments within city jurisdictions. The city residents are having problems with traffic congestion within their neighborhood area, and was a turning point for council members to making their decision on commercial buildings. Councilman Pat Burt said, "If we didn't impose the office space cap, local residents will rise and raise issues with traffic congestion." The Hewlett-Packard company was threatening to move it's headquarters to another city if the office space cap was approved by council members. The council members included an agreement clause for commercial office building developments to have a traffic study program involvement during the development process.
