SAN FRANCISCO IS SEEKING FUNDING FOR LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

The City of San Francisco is seeking federal funding for local networking transportation system that is environmentally safe for pedestrians and bicyclists. San Francisco, California is competing against Austin, Texas; Portland, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Columbus, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; and Kansas City, Missouri throughout the nation. The appropriated federal funding from U.S. Department of Transportation will provide self-driving cars, including services within an autonomous networking transportation system. The San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee shared information about 12 companies testing self-driving cars in San Francisco Bay Area. The funding emphasis falls within projects to eliminate or reduce traffic congestion, fatalities, as well as carbon emissions saving our environment. The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) is proposing a Smart City Challenge project with a shared autonomous transportation system. Including fully optimized automated vehicles with sensors and transforming spaces for safety bike lanes.
