AC TRANSIT INCREASING FARES IN SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

The AC Transit (Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District) services agency in East Bay is increasing passenger fees effective Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in the Bay Area. The AC Transit agency has not increased passenger fees since 2020, and facing local budget shortfall during next fiscal year 2025/2026. Including transit regional funding shortfall by MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) and ARP (American Rescue Plan) Act of 2021 funding is finished. The AC Transit Board of Directors approved thereby increasing rates to save essential transit services for passengers. The rates will be increased by .25 cents for cash payment, and transbay cash fare payment rates by .50 cents for adults. The AC Transit passenger fees increase will be in thereby two-phase, and the second increase will happen during July 1, 2026.
