A new project of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency the L-Taraval rapid deals with the renovation of the traffic management for Taraval Street with an installation of new safety sights. SFMTA and its staff have been working with its colleagues in order to improve the mutual goals of attaining safety and transit reliability.
The changes include additional boarding islands at each Muni stop, installation of red transit-only lanes, removal of parking spaces on Taraval and removal of Muni stops.
Thousands of negative public reactions to these changes have been documented as the petitions against them. People are opposing and protesting at a large scale the present plan of changes or the Muni plan. After huge negotiations over the issue held by staff with neighbors and merchants, the staff ends with an alternative method to achieve goals. And the result was a pilot program of six months which would be evaluated as a trail.
A meeting has been scheduled by the Board of Directors on 20 set, to examine and installation of traffic modifications and to amend the transportation code. The board will decide the permanent and desired changes to Taraval Street program.
According to people, the SFMTA has a single mentality for effecting change along rapid transit lines. SFMTA has not acknowledged the uniqueness of the Taraval Parkside District, the suburb of San Francisco.
The commercial district includes driving and parking on Taraval, also Muni for frequent public amenities. Removal of street parking and Muni stops does not serve needs.
Now the only question lies here is -Will SFMTA stop repeating mistakes and will really start making a positive change!
