San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is considering to increase fares for passengers riding muni buses and railway systems in San Francisco effective within two years. The SFMTA board is planning to have this item on the agenda for discussion and take appropriate action as necessary. This means if the board approves fare increases as planned, the regular fares will increase 25 cents and monthly passes will increase to $75. The board is also considering for adults and youth to pay the same fine amount, for not offering designated seats for seniors and disabled individuals. This consideration is in place because currently the fine amount teenagers pay for this matter is much more than adults. The proposal is for SFMTA board to approve the same fine amount for youth and adult violators, for not sharing their designated seats with seniors and disabled individuals per federal law.
