THE SAFE LANES ADDED A SAFETY POINT FOR BIKERS ON THE CITY ROADS

The Researcher Peter Jacobsen once stated a unique phenomenon as “Safety in numbers”. This states that if more people bike on the streets the better conditions would be, of roads. The National Association of City Transportation Officials reports that the Jacobsen's phenomenon is working on the streets of American cities with added bike infrastructure.

NACTO's research raised the equitable bike share system and insisted that the good bike lanes should be added to the roads. According to NACTO's investigation, the big-scale bike-share system could also amend the accessibility of jobs and extend the safety in a number of ways. It becomes must because the terrible street accidents would demoralize bikers to ride on roads.

In seven U.S. Countries, the NACTO has observed a growing change in bike commuting, bike lane miles, cyclists’ deaths, and several injuries as the cities have added the bike lanes with the roads. In these 7 cities of the U.S., the cyclists have created a bike network and the cities claim an effective
decrease in the number of deaths & injuries of the cyclist.

The five Cities- Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, and Portland- achieved a steep decrease in the death rates of the cyclists during 2007 to 2014 and with a good increase in the cyclists. Whereas the San Francisco and Washington, D.C reported an increased number of injuries but this is again less than the bicyclists.

NACTO reports that the New York City has added 54 miles of bike lanes till 2007, Chicago added 27 miles till 2011 and these are per year adding lanes rates.

As per the survey conducted by the NACTO about the safety of the bikers on roads, it said that the safety majors should be above than race and gender lines. It stated that the death rate of black cyclists was 30 % more than the white cyclists in 2014 survey by the League of American Bicyclists.

NACTO says that more cities can prevent the sudden demise of cyclists by moderating their city's roads. There are around 60 % of people who want to cycle on the roads but because of the accidents they prefer the other routes to travel.
