The Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) state agency signed therein contract with Stadler Rail Inc. to develop zero-emission trains for passengers. The Caltrans historic approach will provide hydrogen zero-emission trains for passengers with intercity traveling. The contract is $80 million for Stadler Rail Inc. to deliver thereby historic zero-emission trains. It will be the first zero-emission trains traveling with passengers onboard in North America, and protecting local intercity environments for families and children. The Caltrans agency approach will make California the first to become a leader in clean transportation worldwide. The historic transporting trains will be powered by using zero-emission hydrogen fuel cells, and self-powered unit trains can safely transport passengers.
