SAN FRANCISCO BICYCLE COALITION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IS LEAVING

As bicycling in San Francisco and bay area movement on the rise, with many changes in transportation with linkage to healthy life styles, and natural environmental healthy awareness benefits while biking to work - Bicycle Coalition Executive Director is stepping down. Leah Shahum has been the coalition Executive Director for 12 years and moving on to other endeavors in her life, and has been seen by people riding her bicycle during her tenure. It's what you call "practicing what you preach" approach making her actually aware of healthy benefits riding a bike to work, aligning with the enjoyment of natural environmental surroundings, with less and low unhealthy fuel emissions on traveling roadways and freeways. "Her leadership working with diverse communities helped our transportation department, to expand transportation streets in San Francisco with options and making it better," said Ed Reiskin, SFMTA Transportation Director.

She participated in a coalition leading into adoption of the Vision Zero plan by local legislators during recent months, setting policies to achieve zero pedestrian and bike riders fatalities in 2024. Encouraging local legislators to have strong backbone support for the Vision Zero initiative, and providing more accessible safety roadways for bike riders and physically separating them from dangerous drivers.
