San Francisco is building new environment-friendly transit system

To improve the transit system, Municipal Transportation Agency of San Francisco has done some planning. They want to build a new transportation system to reduce the unnecessary traffic and to improve roadway and environment safety. By doing this, they want to make walking, bicycling, and riding safe and more appealing than earlier.

On this, Carli Paine, the manager of transportation agency of San Francisco said, “The program is a change in how new development shapes transportation choices for site users to reduce the need to drive. She also added that on-site parking is the most powerful determiner of whether someone chooses to drive or not”.

The program was introduced by Supervisor John Avalos and approved by The Planning Commission. But, the developers will have to first represent plans to reduce vehicle trips. Each project needs to be designed as per the parking space on each area. This planning is estimated to cost around $6,000.

Cheryl Brinkman - the vice chairman of the SFMTA Board of Directors said that, “After the completion of this project, San Francisco would once again be a model city for the rest of the nation and be a laboratory for new ideas”. She also added that, “It is possible to grow smartly. We are on that path. This is a key step”.
As per the report, Department of Environment said that recently 425,000 cars are registered in San Francisco. The vehicles traveling on the streets are responsible for around 40% of the city’s greenhouse gas emissions.
