The latest transportation report released by U.S. Department of Transportation identifies 59,000 transportation bridges and/or overpass are structurally deficient. They need repairs or replacement, and ongoing maintenance for sustainability and 2000 are deemed structurally deficient in California. Out of the top 25 structurally deficient, 3 are in San Francisco Bay Area along Highway 880 bridge overpassing San Leandro Creek in Oakland, another Highway 880 bridge overpassing Whipple Road in Union City, and Highway 680 bridge overpassing Monument Boulevard in Pleasant Hill.

Traffic congestion in San Francisco Bay Area is becoming old news and turning unhealthy for people, and that's why City and County of San Francisco is taking appropriate action of relief. The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) board approval of reforming Mission Street in San Francisco is starting to materialize. Traffic construction crews started Monday morning installing red lanes for muni buses on the street to load and unload passengers.

It's been reported that another Uber driver was driving erratically and onto people's lawns in Kalamazoo, Michigan over this past weekend. The Uber drivers background checks have become a major issue of concern, for passengers and many people are questioning "how safe are they while riding with Uber drivers?" This includes riding with Uber drivers in San Francisco Bay Area and nationwide, and during this month Uber agreed to pay $28.5 million settlement, to pay riders regarding two class action lawsuits.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is considering to increase fares for passengers riding muni buses and railway systems in San Francisco effective within two years. The SFMTA board is planning to have this item on the agenda for discussion and take appropriate action as necessary. This means if the board approves fare increases as planned, the regular fares will increase 25 cents and monthly passes will increase to $75.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) was having some tough times for transportation today, because of muni accidents making it hard for passengers. A bizarre multi-car accident occurred within Ingleside community at 11:30 AM on Ocean Avenue, creating traffic congestion and hardship for commuting passengers in San Francisco. A painting truck landed on a parking vehicle, and leaning against a muni bus line 49 routing for Van Ness and Mission Street.

The State of California highways and roadways need ongoing repairs and maintenance including San Francisco Bay Area regional areas for public safety. The state legislatures are looking at ways and means of financial support for ongoing highways and roadways maintenance, and proposing legislation to divert funds from HSR (High Speed Rail) funding for assistance. The legislative procedures for Assembly Bill (AB) 1768 is in the process and possibly within hearing committee sometimes in March 2016.

The State of California Governor Jerry Brown proposed his $122.6 billion new fiscal year budget, and plans to raise $2 billion for transportation funding. The proposal of $3.6 billion spending within a year is less than experts estimated on what the state would invest. The identified funding revenues will be raised from new state vehicle registration fees, including increase gasoline and diesel taxes to generate $1 billion annually. The Facebook contribution of $1 million for transportation improvement study will also help in San Francisco Bay Area.

Transportation problems along with traffic congestion areas within San Francisco Bay Area, continues to get worse especially for commuting working class people and students. Some tech companies continue to shuttle their employees to and from work everyday, and Facebook is contributing $1 million for a transportation study for improvement. Facebook Headquarter is right along one of the worse traffic congestion areas in San Francisco Bay Area, and perhaps the study will provide feasible information for transportation improvement.

The Caltrain system in San Francisco Bay Area has been going through many safety issues recently, with elevated suicides and accidental deaths on railway train tracks. The Caltrain transit agency is now testing a safety system called PTC (Positive Train Control) electronic system and hopefully prevent some safety issues. The PTC system has been delayed from installation as anticipated to have it done before the end of 2015. It's a technology system that operates using the GPS global system to help control trains from speeding and providing safety information.

The new year 2016 starts with new state laws to ensure transportation elements within State of California are secured to protect people. A total of 807 new state laws are in place effective January 1, 2016, and some laws are now changed for drivers and bicyclists protection. Therefore, drivers and bicyclists are prohibited from wearing both earbuds/earplugs on both ears while operating a car or riding a bicycle. The driver or bicyclist should have one ear open for surrounding sounds, especially emergency vehicles, while driving and/or operating a bicycle on the road.
