SF may possibly allow 45,000 Uber and Lyft drivers to drive on its roads

Big news for 45,000 Uber and Lyft drivers from the ‘San Francisco Treasurer’s office. It states that an increasing number of folks could now possibly drive on the lanes of SF highway. The group of drivers is constantly increasing its number from 37, 000 to 45,000.

This increasing number of cabs also plays a crucial role in creating traffic on the streets of San Francisco.

According to transportation data from INRIX; San Francisco is continuously facing traffic problem with worst traffic blocking.

The transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft have been regulated by California Public Utilities but has no link to SFMTA, which regulates taxis. That’s why SFMTA never ask Uber and Lyft to assist traffic outlines on the roads of the city.

Jose Cisneros, the treasurer, asked for the licenses of Uber and Lyft drivers in April. 37,000 notices had been sent out by the treasurer with noted deadlines till Aug 31, 2016.

Co-director of UC Berkeley’s Transportation Sustainability Research Center and the leading expert on Uber and Lyft, Susan Shaheen has also appreciated this new operation. She explains it as complicated when asked what could be gleaned from the drivers.

When questioned whether the extra drivers had added to the traffic of the city; she answered it with unavailability of data about the Uber, traffic and Lyft in San Francisco.
