FEDERAL FUNDING FOR CALTRAIN AND HSR IN SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

The HSR (High Speed Rail) Authority is proposing for federal funding assistance through California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) as needed to complete HSR project and Caltrain electrification. The California 14 Republicans in Congress is asking new federal Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, to block $647 million grant for Caltrain. The request was made through the National Governor's Association and using infrastructure projects to create more jobs in California. The federal funding will help with Caltrain's electrification and may also help the HSR project. The Caltrain grant would assist the electrification project worth $1.98 billion and HSR is $2.9 billion for the extension operating system.
