The SamTrans Board of Directors have authorized a 1/8 sales tax measure for the upcoming November 2020 elections in San Francisco Bay Area for Caltrain. The proposal tax measure has to be approved first by San Francisco and Santa Clara counties before it goes to next steps for voters approval. The tax measure will be voted within San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties because of therein Caltrain service areas. The tax measure is aligned with state legislation SB797 (Senate Bill 797) allowing Caltrain to place therein measure on the ballot. It has to be ratified by 2/3 of voters approval on election day to support Caltrain improvement projects funding. The Caltrain tax measure funding will help with therein transit Modernization Program and electrification improvement project.
