The U.S. Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao shared information on pending regulations for self-driving cars within San Francisco Bay Area and nationwide. The USDOT (U.S. Department of Transportation) along with NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) will revisit and rewrite therein self-driving cars safety policies. The U.S. Transportation Secretary shared her remarks to revisit therein safety policies during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. She noted the polling survey shows 78% Americans are afraid of riding in a self-driving car and innovators have to become accountable. She also shared about USDOT's mission to cultivate and encourage innovators to eliminate unnecessary and unsafe vehicular obstacles. The Safety Advocates Coalition called on federal legislators and transportation officials to hold self-driving cars manufacturers accountable for vehicular safety reasoning.
